This is a weekly post that is designed to give you an idea of what prices to expect at a local yard. Please note that every yard may vary their prices, and that the information here is meant to be used only as a guideline.
Ferrous Scrap:
All ferrous prices are in the format $/tonne (2,240 lbs)
- #1 Prepared: $220
- #1 Unprepared: $210
- Light Iron: $185
- Cars: $210
Where Do I Find Scrap Metal?
This is probably one of the most important questions to ask. After all, any other information on this site is useless if you don’t actually have any metal to scrap in the first place. I’m going to go over some things that have worked for me in the past. Your methods will differ a little depending on the type of metals you’re targeting, but overall the most important thing to do is get out there and talk to people.

The simple answer is that scrap metal yards are any place that will allow you to trade in bulk amounts of various metals for cash. The basic idea is that you gather a bunch of metal, bring it to your local scrap yard, where they will weigh it and pay you for junk. The best part is that you really don’t need to know much about metals or the scrap industry to get started, most scrap yards can help you sort the metals you have, and while you may not get the best price, you’ll still go home with money in your pocket.
